How to create a Digital Storytelling video

Assalamualaikum wbt

As promised, I'm going to share some tips on how to create your own Digital Storytelling (DS) project.

First and foremost, you need to have:

1. Windows Live Movie Maker

2. Youtube Downloader.

If you don't have the software above, you can download them for FREE. Just make sure to follow the instructions carefully.

Step 1

Create a Digital Story folder at your desktop.

Step 2 

Open any internet browser (GOOGLE/ Yahoo etc). Download images related to your project.

Save the selected images in your DS folder (refer to Step 1)

Step 3

Download videos by using Youtube Downloader.
You can convert the downloaded Videos (MP4) to MP3 format by using Youtube Downloader.
Click Convert and save as Mp3. The downloaded MP3 and MP4 can be saved under DS folder.

Step 4

Open Windows Live Movie Maker.

Add the downloaded images/ videos/ songs.
** This requires practice. You need to familiarize yourself with some of the features (Animation/ Splitting etc) in order to produce an interesting video**

Step 5

Make sure to save the video

SAVE MOVIE -- For Computer
 This Movie is now ready to be use in your lesson. 

 However, this video cannot be edited.
Before you save the video as instructed above, make sure to save it as an edited version.
Click SAVE PROJECT.  You might want to do some adjustment/ editing in the future without having to start everything from beginning.

the old postcards

 Assalamualaikum

Today, I brought some old postcards to my Form 2 classes.
I wanted to show them how a postcard look like. I was quite surprised when most of my students were not able to differentiate between a postcard and a letter. Oh...*sigh*

So, I showed them my collections of old postcards. I got mixed responses from the students, some even said :

*ala teacher download je kan dari internet..
* ala teacher, buat apa beli postcard. SMS/ WeChat/ WhatssApp kan ada!

Sometimes, I really pity the students because they seem to have lack knowledge about common basic things. Come on la, takkan la poskad pun tak tau. Tapi bila bercakap, segala benda yang tidak mendatangkan faedah tahu ja, especially pasal hiburan. You just name it, the will tell you the latest gossip from A-Z. 

My current reading. 

My current reading is a book entitled Kembara Sastera by Nisah Haron. The book is about the writer's journey to European countries. Beliau menceritakan bagaimana sastera dan budaya menjadi sebahagian daripada perkara yang membina peradaban bagi sesetengah masyarakat di Eropah. Beliau mempersoalkan suatu isu yang benar-benar membuat saya terfikir dengan sangat dalam.

 As I looked back at the postcards, I can't stop thinking about the good times I had when I was studying in New Zealand. Alhamdulillah, syukur sangat atas rezeki Allah dah bagi untuk belajar dekat tempat orang. Although it was only for two years, the precious experiences of studying and living there have definitely opened up my mind about so many things. Indeed, I am so thankful for the once in a lifetime opportunity. 

I want to be the agent of change. I want to build a nation that is able to think and never opt to the 'tak apa attitude'. I will start it in school, in my own classroom.

What is a vet?

Assalamualaikum wbt

Today, I taught my students about an interesting job; a vet

Induction activity:
Me: The clue is OCCUPATION. What is this job?

V _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ N

 There were so many attempts but they did not able to guess the word until the last few letters

V E _ E R _ N A R _ A N

Me: It's VETERINARIAN! or you can also say Vet!
** a total silence**

Suddenly, one of my smart alec broke the silence...

Pertab Singh: Oh!!!! Yang makan sayur tu eh cikgu???

Me: Err....that's not VET, that's VEGETARIAN!
A vet is .............

(and the lesson went on well until the bell rang)
